I think it's boring. The judges were too nice and not really telling the truth. I did not watch the whole show because of that.

Anonymous said...

It was ok but I prefer the American version because there is a real judge. Canadians are too nice.

I actually liked the show. The Asian guy did pretty good job in break dance. Also the way that 6-foot guy moves was quite amazing. He was really fast, percussive and rhythmic.

good job

I agree that the judges were too nice. But there were some people derserving of going to the finals. Namely Breanne Wong. I thought that she had amazing facility for dance and a choreographer can do wonders with it. Her audition had simple movements and was very clean. Scott Macdonald was another one that deserved the ticket. He worked his acro into his audition really nicely and it kept me engaged the whole time. The audition after Scott, Shane Simpson was also one that deserved the ticket.
I was a bit upset with the decision to let Graeme Goodhall into the "finals". I didn't think he did THAT well. His acrobatic tricks weren't as well worked into his routine as it did in comparison to Scott. I didn't think his technique was all that great either. Aside from him, none of the other auditions were memorable aside from a few breakers/poppers/street dancers.

I like this show its a way for all types of dancers to express them selves. Sure there are some people that got in for the finales for stupidness but thats the judges fault for letting them in. In the future i would try put for this show and hopefuly get in and be able to continue. My favorite so far is Mattew Owen he has good tecnicality and movment as well as a way of experssing him selve.

The guy who did the modern dance piece (and cut his chin) was very talented. He was flexible and used the stage well. The break dancer at the beginning was also good and flexible. I also think the judges were too kind to some of the dancers.

Anonymous said...

I really enjoy the show and one specific dancer Matthew he was the one who scratched his chin on the dance floor. I like the way he moves. The movement structure, contrast made it look so screwed up and abstract. It was very artistic. Every movement and pose was like a statue.

I think that some of the competitors were totaly crazy and could not actualy dance. Like "Fairy"

Anonymous said...

I really like the montreal auditions because they had more variety and a lot more dancers who knew what they were doing.

Anonymous said...

i think that Lara Smythe's audition was great and she did a number of different types of dances but the one that standed out the most was interpretive, it looked a lot like she was trying to say something.

Anonymous said...

I really enjoyed "TK"s audition!
The style of music and the style of dance were very different but went together very well. His energy was great!

Anonymous said...

toronto was horrible. montreal was amazing. toronto judges are immesnly lame, and that american woman should jump off a bridge. but so far so good!

... stage space wise

the american version had a larger variaty of dancers/danceing. i felt that i was watching the same dance over and over again. i also really like marry because she adds all the personality and real advice to the jundging side of the compition.

Anonymous said...

I thought the Asian guy with the rubics cube was awesome.

I really hate the gymnast though, he didn't look trained as a dancer at all. His legs weren't straight when they needed to be and he just didn't look like a dancer, his movements were too regemented for the style of dance he was doing.

Anonymous said...

I thought that the tronto auditions where kinda to nice the jugdes where to nice and i think where blinded by the other good dancers and let the ones that where not soo good to the finals but the montreal one was sooooooo good

Anonymous said...

mmmmmmmmm...Pie

I disliked the judjes alot. I thought that they were too soft and at least 30 percent of those people who got in were really nothing.

I thought that there were a few very entertaining people on day 1esspecially the breakers but the bad ones kept coming and the good comments kept coming and in the end I was just dissapointed

it doesn't piss me off if the judges are nice, but if there nice to the point where the people who suck will leave thinking they actualy have talent...then it pissses me off. the point of a judge is to confirm if a person should keep gooing or get lost. they NEED to tell some people they're crap. so is the circle of life.

Anonymous said...

I love so you think you can dance, i think i like the american version better but overall i also think that some people went to the finals that shouldn't have. some people went to coriography when they should have went to the finals. The gymnistGraeme Goodhall was really good but he didn't go to the finals he went to choriography (spelt wrong.) go on youtube and see his audition. IT IS AWSUNME! He has music timing, the moves and some really good flexability and talent. I really like the slow pireuette that he does in his audition, it looks cool and he has perfect balance. I agree with choopiedippz about Namely Breanne Wong. until next time

There needs to be a better N00B filter on that show. I reccomend Simon. "Out"!

Anonymous said...

I don't believe the gymnast should have made. He was a gymnast, not a dancer. He was sloppy because he had training in gymnastics and not dance. He was just impressing the audience with fancy moves and not dance. Maybe if he had some official dance training his dancing would be better. dance

I like "So you think you can dance Canada" or "SYTYCDC". I didn't watch the first episode yet, but im going too. And is it just me, or do you think Mary is annoying? I think people are just saying that the American one is better because it was first. I personaly think that the Canadian dancers are better. And the less Mary, the better

I only watched the Toronto auditions, and I already have my money on the contemporary dancer who cut his chin, Matthew Owen. His movements were stunning, and he must've been incredibly focused to continue his routine after the injury. The way he held himself and his posture made him look like a dancer, and that made the diffrence for me.

The only other dancer I really enjoyed was the first one, Dwayne 'Boneless' Gulston, because he was really entertaining to watch.

Overall, I found that the show seemed pretty commercial and cheesy, especially that dancer who was crying about her dad's death on camera, in an obvious plea to the judges. I mean, god, don't bring family members into this!

Anonymous said...

i liked the toronto auditions (with the exception of mary murphy). the audition the boneless guy did was one of the best I've seen. he was very flexible, and fun to watch. i saw tk perform before this show. hes a professional hip-hop dancer, and he showed it in his audition. i think him and dwayne (boneless) gulston could be favourites for the competition along with the montreal couple auditioning in halifax.

Anonymous said...

i thought that the judge mary was extreemly annoying. i couldnt concentrate on the dancing because i wanted to smack her in the face for the entire show. she doesnt give any commentary or criticism all she does is scream. as for the actual dancing i thought that the guy with the rubiks cube was crazy good and the 2 black breakdancers were cool too.

hey i totaly luveeeee!!! so you think you can dance canada but i have to say sytycd was better ,only because theres more of a selection of people in it then were in canada there mostly all the same

I thought that Karl Alba was pretty good.
http://www.sytycdfans.com/news.php?articleID=15
He teaches at a studio in Toronto and he's pretty good

Anonymous said...

Montreal was definitly my favourite, all the contestants seemed more dedicated and as you said more artistic. The judges seemed to be more harsh yet better at judging the dances. The ball room to Hip Hop was a strangely good twist. I felt they added some modern into there but they moved as one unit which is very good for a duet. From the Toronto auditions I liked Karl Alba, he had great moves and could switch from a smooth move to a sharp, edgy move. That gave him some great variety of moves. Also stop saying dumb things, "beef I got chicken?" It's not funny, stop. The Vancouver and Winnipeg auditions were interesting yet not quite as exciting as Montreal, I liked the Cuban woman. Her music was quite unique and she knew how to move too it.

The canadian SYTYCD is very diffrent form the american one. for started I noticed that there are not as many crazy poeple in canada as there are in the U.S.A. which made me sad because thats the best part. However just loking at the Dancers I saw that show was a lot better then the U.S.A. However what puzzled me was that they were giving tickets to dancers left and right, I found the show way better when it was more common the find a dancer who sucked then to find a dancer who was really good. That made the good dancer like a Dimond in the ruff and much more fun to watch because it felt like a treat. Also I couldn't under stand why they would give so many breakers and Popers tickets and give ballroom dancers and trained dance the other round. when the trained dancers thend to do better in the comation. other then those thing the show was really good.

the dancer who was african american was one of the best, the flip he did was cool i hope he wins the cash!

The one thing I CAN'T STAND about So You Think You can dance, is those people who totally can't dance, and are fully aware that they can't dance, trying out. Though people think it's funny to watch them stumble through dance moves, at the base of it, the only reason these people try out is because they are shameless media prostitutes. They cannot possible believe that they will win. They only want to be seen on TV and become famous. They think, from seeing how William Hung made a killing by being bad at singing, that they will be patronized into success. The worst part is, that doing this is a HUGE dirty handed slap to the face of any of the actually talented dancers who have a chance of winning. And the producers of the show only accept them because they know this will get them ratings.

So yes.

Ah so you think you can dance what can i say exept THAT IT IS A GREAT SHOW. I found that Montreal outshined Toronto in terms of artistic quality but still toronto came up with a handful of talented dancers. I think that the guy who did the tango was pretty good. I found that there were to many breakdancers and b boys dont get me wrong they are amazing but come on we need some more ballrom salsa and all the other dance forms. I have to agree I hate those fame hunting crap dancers oh well what are you going to do.

jeez so you think you can dance canada is an amazing show. if you havent seen the montreal auditions then you gotta check it out it is freaking amazing. you know what i just found out one of the toronto dancers who got in teaches at bthe dance stoudio i go to jeez that blows my minde

@crimson - I think the second half of your comment was to me. I know that Graeme had originally gone to choreography, but he did make finals after that. Although he may be god with choreography, I don't think his solos will get him far at all. He lacks technical training, imo.

Anonymous said...

one of the best lyrical dancers so far i think was shane simpson, the black guy in the white shorts who danced to stand by me. i could tell that he had a lot of training and could do lots of different styles. also, he had a lot of musicality in his audition and he flowed well with the music. his elevation in his jumps was quite impressive as well. he also used his face when he was dancing wich made his performance more beleivable. i can agree with tiger on the note that they are being a little to nice but it is important to be polite to the people auditioning

- OMG

I didnt like some of theaudictions. My reasons for this is becaus some of the peole looked like they werent even dancing, just moving around. Also somedidnt look like they wanted it, it was like they were there just to be there. On the other hand some of them were great and had good timing. I liked the one guy who danced to classical music and the way he moved to it.

- OMG

I liked Nicoles dance. This is because she had nice sharp movements and she looked happy and enjoyful. Victor was also good. He had great blance and was a great dancer but had no eye contact with the audiance or emotion. One i didnt really like was Jermeys dance. All he really did was randomly move at times and run in a circle. The only really good thing he did was use up all his space.

@chooiedippz and everyone else who commented about my post

I know gymnist Graeme Goodhall didn't make it past choriography but he had a lot of dance skills and the flexability to make toronto week. He had good timimng and dance ability NOT just good gymnist moves.

I also like to see some of the really bad dancers dance just for a laugh but it isn't because i am mean.
1. they think they are amasing BTW they arn't
2 NO Tecnique
3 JUST SHAKING THIER BUTS ON STAGE.

Did you guys see the guy who ran around on stage for his audition. I thought he had potential but was just a horrable chiriographer

P.S i am sorry about spelling :)

Mr. Li, I think you should post the blog post for Halifax/Vancouver and Montreal/Calgary.
But if you're not, I guess I'll leave my thoughts on the rest of the auditions.
IMO, the maritime auditions were the weakest auditions. There was no one that stood out to me. The only person I remember from the maritimes was Emmanuel Sandhu. Only for the reason that I felt that his head was too large for my screen. I predict that he will make top 20, but will most likely be eliminated early due to the fact that he has a grating personality and an EXTREMELY large ego.
Montreal and Calgary auditions were the strongest. I found many of my favourites from that episode. The first audition that stood out to me in Montreal was Nicolas Archambault. Amazing technique, incredible movement. Though he got sent to choreography (Though I felt he should have been sent straight through) he still made finals. Jeremy Tran-Huu's audition stood out to me immediately because of the sheer originality of his audition. He had great personality and very interesting quirks in his dancing (He's also adorable>.>). My absolute favourite from montreal was Katie Lee. Amazing personality and such clean movement. Last from Montreal was Cody Bonnell. I can see A LOT of potential in him. For those that watched the second season of the American version, I feel that Cody will be similar to Ivan Koumaev in growth.
I was very impressed with the ballroom couples in Calgary. FINALLY, some really hot latin dancing. I was pleased by it. The one person that I found stood out to me was Izaak Smith. His movements were so fluid. You can tell he has at least some training by the turns that he did. I was very impressed by him. I had goosebumps watching his audition actually.
I apologize for my LONG comments. v.v

In the Montreal auditions i enjoyed watching the dancer Justin Jackson, because he had a unique style of tap dancing it looked like his feet were separate from his body from beginning to end.

Entertainment evaluation, you get from Great (impressive and expressive (entertaining.))
To bad (funny= entertaining.)
This show rely brings out how much indifference there is within even sub-genres. there are so many different dance styles, and personal styles in that. it really inspires you and makes you feel good at the same time because of the attention-whoring lunatics that know they can't dance and just want to be on Tv ( I see I was beaten to my William Hung Joke)(not that I don't feel sorry for the people that actually think they can dance)to comment on some dancers, I'll start with TK, His modern style was very precise, sharp and angular and instead of putting on hip hop or rap, like most dancers of that genre do, he really worked that classical movement for him, a perfect match and a good way to twist the familiar.(as a side note, he was VERY well prepared and you could tell). Matthew Olsen defiantly was comfortable and knew how to use his body, even though his choreography was all over the place and hard to pin point a specific feel, emotion or story. Jessie Catibog, this guy knew what he was doing!! He used lots of levels, every part of his body in a conventional way, and really made you feel the music, even through a miniscule tv. There were many different styles of dancing but certain concentrations of each and some styles and genres completely ignored and it was cool to see this.

Don't get your hopes up this is over :) I still have to complain about the hosts :), I hate to be a pessimist, but I can't ignore their lack of analytical skills that someone deserving of such a job should have. To tell you the truth (and suck up), Mr. Li would make a better judge, (despite the fact that he wouldn't be as entertaining nor would we appreciate our beloved teacher leaving us) The judges commented on the dancer much more than the dance; and the dancer not on their ability to dance or technique, but on how well they thought and how they may make it as a professional or in a career. but yeah, my justifications....

Mary Murphy,

She was absolutely wretched!!! putting her obnoxious laugh aside, her failure to say anything other than cliches and things and things an intoxicated mother in law would say to a baby are reliving! Those are her intelligent comments! All she does is comment on clothing and make homophobic comments. She's on a show about dance and insulting male dancers on grace and effeminacy!!! That is ridiculous!! but enough complaining, (I've got two more judges before the actual show itself (: )

Luther Brown,

Now, I'm no grammar Nazi, I have no problem with accents, or ways people speak, but when a third of your evaluation of an important interview to a persons career is composed of "hey" "soul" man" "tight" "bra" and repeated phrases, thats not really showing what you though of their choreography and skill further than its good or it's bad. Other than saying, "that was tight", or "you got soul bra" all he did was comment on how attractive the female dancers were, and inquire as to why the male dancers were so attractive...

Tre Armstrong

Well, she was the best, but thats not saying that much. But she at least had a decent repertoire of synonyms so she could repeat what the other judges said without losing some flavor, (even though thats not a lot of content to repeat) In TK's evaluation, She even suggested juxtaposing what Mary said into her comment!! Tre is the permanent judge and Mary (thank god) is the guest! Not to mention the comment in question is more about the accompaniment that the dance itself!

in conclusion, I gotta go to sleep.

P.S. xxslicepikclesxx,
I'd watch out for crackatowa if I were you! this kid is beefy and not lanky at all!! [/inside joke]
He'll go all Crackatowa on yo ass... plus, He knows how to spell beef!!!

In contrast to my earlier post, (like anyone remembers) I thought that the people who truly looked like they were professional as dancers were some of the most athletic people I've ever seen.

Now can they keep it up...?

TORONTO AUDITIONS ON NOW :) yay

I don't like how manuel sanduke is getting threw all the steps of tornto auditions by using his reputation. If you didn't know Manuel sanduke is a famous figure skater that is now retired and back to ballroom dance. From another figure skaters perspective (10 years from me) Manuel sanduke is just reliying on on his triple axel (3 and a half rotations in the air) I think they are favouring him and i don't like how they are babying him.

PLEASE COMMENT!

i think that justin the tapdancer was awsome and his dancing is intense fast a fluid

This episode must have been the best I have seen. I really enjoyed the hip hop and disco dances I thought that they picked up the chorography quickly. But for goodness sake that judge who taught them that mordern dance routine was terrible and unfair he was a awful teacher. Thank god Mr.Li is teaching us imagine ending up with that judge. Any way back to the dancers I hated manuel the only reason that he stayed for so long was because of his triple axel. The top twenty were the pick of the crop the judges picked well i can't wait till the next episode.

Anonymous said...

I did think the judges were too nice, HOWEVER,

there wasn't really a large range of talent,

most dancers where either incredibly visibly appealing or the complete opposite.

I thought the guy with the rubics cube was awesome though, his fluidity really made me WANT to watch.

On So you think you can dance Canada episode 3 the first audition in Montreal was a Italian guy wearing a blue shirt. He was dancing to ballroom partnering with a girl. I thought it was really fun and entertaining especially his facial expression. He was smiling during the whole dance. It was very smooth and fluence. You can tell from his movement and the smile on his face he was very into his dance. That's why I really like that peace.

Anonymous said...

Why you guys all hatin' on Emanuel?!? so what he's a cocky bitch, that doesn't mean is isn't a good dancer, sure his audition was kinda gimmicky, but it was interesting how he juxtaposed his figure skating into his routine. About the triple axle, the judges are just culture-less big-wigs. I knew what a bloody triple axle was when I was 7 by watching frickin' Arthur the Aardvark! That Mary redneck was the most intrigued by it and she didn't even give him the vote because he tried to satire bollywood, which was a quite funny comic-relief-esque type thingy if you ask me. That anti-effeminism itself is disgusting. he's defiantly an in your face gay, but that doesn't justify hetrosexism. his routine was unique and precise, organized but everywhere and well performed. thats what he should be evaluated on.

Anonymous said...

p.s.
I only saw his audition, and not him dong anything else. (if that makes a difference)

OMG...

Natalie and Kevins dance was good. I liked the sharp movemets, but didnt like wat they were wearing. Also u could tell Natlie was a bit off time...
